Pantone Colour of the Year - 17-5641: Emerald Green

It goes without saying that Pantone is the authority on colour. Every year, the company puts forward its pick of Colour of the Year. Last week, it announced the colour of 2013 to be Emerald Green (17-5641). 

Sophisticated and Luxurious, emerald is one of the true jewel tones. I have to admit I do love jewel tones (rich bold and dramatic purples, yellows, red and blues), but they aren't colours we often use in weddings - where many people opt for something a little softer.

Believe it or not, Pantone's announcement will have an influence on the products you see next year, and it is also likely to influence wedding decor. In 2012 Pantone named Tangerine Tango as the colour of the year, and after styling a couple of orange weddings this year, we think we're pretty likely to see some Emerald hitting our portfolio in 2013!!

The Maze Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, we were thrilled to see one of our photo-shoots featured on Polka Dot Bride. Those 'in the know' understand what an honour this is, as the site is one of Australia's best wedding blogs, and one of our favourite sources of wedding inspiration.

Now that the excitement has died down, we thought we'd share some of the pics here for you. The shoot took place a couple of months ago now, and we've kept the photos under wraps all this time, so of course we've been dying to share them!

It was a project in the making for quite some time.. and involved some fantastic Adelaide suppliers. So rather than recap the story of the shoot (which you can see over here), we thought we'd take the chance to thank and pay tribute to the team:

Mintaro Maze - the stunning location provided such a beautiful backdrop to work with - and the team there is so lovely and helpful. If you haven't been yet, you must check it out. We would LOVE to style a wedding there one day!

Bird & Brak - creators of such lovely flowers..  it was like their blooms were made for our tins! We are endlessly impressed by the superb talents of these girls and can't recommend them enough.

Ella Gamlen - In charge of capturing all of the details and ensuring the story shone through, was Ella our photographer. And capture the details, she sure did! Ella is a great photographer - check out her facebook for the evidence! And we also owe her for bringing along the gorgeous models!

Little Bones - Andy from Little Bones created our menus, invites, and name-tags for the table. Ever talented and oh-so creative, Andy's designs were pretty enough to sit amongst china and flowers, while fun enough to make you want to attend a tea-party. This chap comes highly recommended.

L'Indulgence Hair & Beauty - Gemma and Brodie from L'indulgence are talented hairdressers and we love what they did with the models! With 5 sets of locks to play with, they went to town, creating 5 beautiful yet wearable styles.  Their salon is down at sunny Grange - why not pay them a visit over Summer?

Kate Roxby Makeup - Despite the long day, wind and sun, our models stayed flawless all day thanks to Kate's skilled hand at makeup. Makup isnt something you want to stand out in photos.. you want it to enhance and accentuate the natural beauty - and that's exactly what this make up does - making Kate an ideal option for wedding makeup.

We were so pleased to work with some of our great mates - and to meet some new suppliers too! Please check out their sites/pages!

The planning - and the day - were so much fun, and we're really happy with the oh-so-pretty results.

Using Furniture

There is just something about antique furniture. Antique, vintage, second hand. 



Don’t you sometimes wish your Grandmother hadn’t downsized and thrown out her beautiful pieces? That your Mum had said, “hey I’ll keep that?” Or that you were around to claim them?!These are pieces that have sat there throughout time. If only they could talk; imagine the stories they could tell?  


Sentimental, characteristic or simply unique pieces, some furniture just feels right, like a piece of home or part of the family!


As a lover of incorporating things that are “so me” (or "so you") in events, I adore the idea of using unique and one of a kind pieces of furniture in weddings. It may be the dresser your Granny sat in front of when she moved into her first home. It may be a piece your Mother bought when she was 18; or something you found, fell in love with, and restored. 


Furniture has the ability to hold value, precious memories, and sentimental meaning. It also has the ability to provide a laid back garden wedding with the ‘grand factor’. And add that homely personal touch.

Sunshine on a rainy day..

This winter weather has us daydreaming of sunshine and colour... so what better time than now to share one of our recent weddings from when the sun was still shining... and the bride loved colour.

On a most glorious sunny April day, we had the pleasure of styling the wedding of Kalarie and Jeremy at the National Wine Centre.

Kalarie came to us knowing she wanted a rustic feel and she had already planned many aspects of her day using our favourite tool, pinterest!! But like many of our brides, she wanted some help pulling all of her ideas together.. and while she was very in touch with the planning process, she needed someone to make sure it would all look the way she wanted on the day. 

Here are some of the details from their wedding.

The centre-pieces featured an assortment of glass jars and bottles, with wood slabs and candles on hessian bases. The flowers were a mixture of bright sunny colours, which Kalarie helped pick from a garden in the Adelaide Hills. To help fit within her budget, we donned our floristry hats and arranged these for her.  

The place settings were juicy green pears tied with personalised rustic paper tags.

For Kalarie and Jeremy, it was incredibly important to honour and include their loved ones in their day. The couple wrote letters to each guest and placed them on their napkins at the dinner table - and they also asked that we feature some of their special guests in the styling.
Along the corridor to their venue, there was a series of glass display cabinets. We used each of these to feature one of the special groups of guests: Grandparents, Parents, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen and the couple themselves.

It such a lovely thought. And Kalarie told us later that as she approached the reception room her eyes filled with tears at the sight of them.Good tears!

The other way that the couple decided to include their guests was via a photobooth to capture the fun of the night! This is a great way make sure you get some snaps of guests on the night. 

And finally.. the most important detail in any wedding: the happy smiling,  in-love couple:

The 'Rise' of the Balloon

Saying; ‘have you thought about using balloons’ to a bride these days is sure to find you receiving mixed reactions. For those who are in the know they are probably open to the idea, for those whom don’t follow blogs or the latest wedding trends their faces often look at you with horror! There is no denying that the use of balloons in weddings is definitely in vogue, yet for some the word balloon conjures up horrid images of their cousin’s engagement party back in the late 80’s!

We love balloons for snaps of colour and a fun photo prop –whether it is for you to use or your guest during their pre-dinner drinks. To us; balloons are modern, youthful and fun! They can be used in a variety of ways without looking tacky. We have collected some pictures for your own balloon inspiration...

Beach Wedding - One Theme, Two Ways

Summer has come early in Adelaide this year (yippeee!), and it's got us daydreaming of long days at the beach, lazing in the sunshine. Of course it's also got us thinking of beach weddings!

The beach location and the beach theme is incredibly versatile and can be interpreted in so many ways. Too often, we see the same ideas played out - all blue and white with starfish theming! 

There's so much more you can do than that... ideas that spring to mind are -  whimsical and dreamy wedding, rustic and earthy, fun and playful, slick and modern, or even elegant / traditional styles. All styles seem to suit the beach wedding! 

Today we thought we'd create 2 totally different beach vibes to demonstrate what you could do with this setting..

1. Earthy Romance

For us, simplicity, natural tones and earthy themes are favorites, and these elements fit perfectly with a water-side wedding. There is no feeling closer to mother nature than standing on the beach with sand between your toes, a dress blowing in the breeze and ocean spray against your skin. 

So here's this feeling, put into pictures and turned into a damn pretty wedding.

2. Have a (beach) 'Ball'

Last weekend's visit to the Middleton Beach Huts has given us a totally different kind of beach wedding inspiration! 

The vibrant colours of the huts (not unlike your favourite beach ball) would create such a fun party vibe for a wedding!  And on a hot Summer day, what more do you want than to kick off your heels and dance barefoot in a relaxed party vibe?!

We're loving the boldness of aquas, red and yellows... so here's some fun ideas we'd love to see at an Adelaide wedding soon!

So different, but we love both!
