The Maze Shoot

A couple of weeks ago, we were thrilled to see one of our photo-shoots featured on Polka Dot Bride. Those 'in the know' understand what an honour this is, as the site is one of Australia's best wedding blogs, and one of our favourite sources of wedding inspiration.

Now that the excitement has died down, we thought we'd share some of the pics here for you. The shoot took place a couple of months ago now, and we've kept the photos under wraps all this time, so of course we've been dying to share them!

It was a project in the making for quite some time.. and involved some fantastic Adelaide suppliers. So rather than recap the story of the shoot (which you can see over here), we thought we'd take the chance to thank and pay tribute to the team:

Mintaro Maze - the stunning location provided such a beautiful backdrop to work with - and the team there is so lovely and helpful. If you haven't been yet, you must check it out. We would LOVE to style a wedding there one day!

Bird & Brak - creators of such lovely flowers..  it was like their blooms were made for our tins! We are endlessly impressed by the superb talents of these girls and can't recommend them enough.

Ella Gamlen - In charge of capturing all of the details and ensuring the story shone through, was Ella our photographer. And capture the details, she sure did! Ella is a great photographer - check out her facebook for the evidence! And we also owe her for bringing along the gorgeous models!

Little Bones - Andy from Little Bones created our menus, invites, and name-tags for the table. Ever talented and oh-so creative, Andy's designs were pretty enough to sit amongst china and flowers, while fun enough to make you want to attend a tea-party. This chap comes highly recommended.

L'Indulgence Hair & Beauty - Gemma and Brodie from L'indulgence are talented hairdressers and we love what they did with the models! With 5 sets of locks to play with, they went to town, creating 5 beautiful yet wearable styles.  Their salon is down at sunny Grange - why not pay them a visit over Summer?

Kate Roxby Makeup - Despite the long day, wind and sun, our models stayed flawless all day thanks to Kate's skilled hand at makeup. Makup isnt something you want to stand out in photos.. you want it to enhance and accentuate the natural beauty - and that's exactly what this make up does - making Kate an ideal option for wedding makeup.

We were so pleased to work with some of our great mates - and to meet some new suppliers too! Please check out their sites/pages!

The planning - and the day - were so much fun, and we're really happy with the oh-so-pretty results.

Rustic Intimate Dinner Party

Sometimes we get caught up in the oh-so pretty elements of style that we forget just how beautiful and equally as stunning simple can be.

Back in August we threw a special dinner party for a special someone; this special someone was male and probably would not appreciate all the beautiful floral prints and arrangements we so often gravitate towards. As a results, we set out to create an masculine, yet elegant setting – if there is such a thing?!  Well it turns out there is, although I would probably not use masculine to describe the end result.

For those of us whom looove detail, simplicity can be a breath of fresh air. This setting created just that. It was earthy, rustic, and yet beautiful. This intimate dinner took place in the loft at Wanera Wine Bar, Angaston. The food and staff were fantastic, and the room provided a brilliant atmosphere! We would most certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone look for a warm and welcoming space.

Sam & Pete = Oh So Sweet

One of the things we love about our job is meeting so many lovely couples. But some really stand out as being excited, in love, and just projecting happiness. Sam and Pete were one of those couples. You couldn't meet a nicer pair: so happy, friendly and down to earth. 

Their wedding was held in Autumn when the leaves were a sunburnt orange, so it was fitting that they went with an orange colour scheme too. Held at Mount Lofty House,  their wedding was slightly rustic, very pretty and full of details.

Sam and Pete - we wish you a wonderful life together. It was a pleasure to meet and help with a day you will remember forever. May you live happily ever after.

Baby Shower: Kate is ready to pop

Today I went to a very special baby shower. Special because it was for my big sister, in honour of my baby nephew who is yet to grace us with his presence but already holds a special place in our hearts!

The baby shower had a blue colour scheme, since blue is for boys. We also had a bit of a 'pop' theme - since 'Kate is ready to pop'.
The invitations were sourced from etsy seller, Lindsey, and were printables.  
In line with the pop theme, we had big round balloons that looked just about ready to pop, along with popcorn, soda pop, mallow pops, lollipops, and so on..

Last week on facebook, we asked for recommendations for cupcakes for one of our brides. Incidentally, that bride booked her wedding cakes from one of the recommended suppliers: Bec's Bakes. I decided to get in touch with Bec myself, and at rather late notice, she made some cakes for today's baby shower.

The lemon curd sponge cupcakes were absolutely divine! We had blue ones with tiny little baby feet on top, as well as some plain white which I decorated with cake toppers.

Kate wasn't keen to play the traditional baby shower games, so instead I made her a book and asked everyone to provide some advice for her to look back on.. things they wished they knew before they'd had babies, tips on how to get them to sleep/eat/etc - or just little things that will help her keep her sanity. Everyone wrote her a note and slotted it into one of the envelopes in the book.

Reading the responses was great fun, with tips ranging from "Listen to your mum and aunties", through to "Don't listen to anyone, trust your gut!". Baby Panadol made an appearance as a life-saver, and we also had the rather hilarious: "Don't post annoying stuff on Facebook. Cute photos and funny stories accepted, but keep the annoying stuff to yourself or vent elsewhere!" :-)

I'm looking forward to being an aunty. If today is anything to go by, he's going to be one spoiled little boy!

Now I'm off to enjoy one last Bec's Bakes cupcake for dinner..

Sunshine on a rainy day..

This winter weather has us daydreaming of sunshine and colour... so what better time than now to share one of our recent weddings from when the sun was still shining... and the bride loved colour.

On a most glorious sunny April day, we had the pleasure of styling the wedding of Kalarie and Jeremy at the National Wine Centre.

Kalarie came to us knowing she wanted a rustic feel and she had already planned many aspects of her day using our favourite tool, pinterest!! But like many of our brides, she wanted some help pulling all of her ideas together.. and while she was very in touch with the planning process, she needed someone to make sure it would all look the way she wanted on the day. 

Here are some of the details from their wedding.

The centre-pieces featured an assortment of glass jars and bottles, with wood slabs and candles on hessian bases. The flowers were a mixture of bright sunny colours, which Kalarie helped pick from a garden in the Adelaide Hills. To help fit within her budget, we donned our floristry hats and arranged these for her.  

The place settings were juicy green pears tied with personalised rustic paper tags.

For Kalarie and Jeremy, it was incredibly important to honour and include their loved ones in their day. The couple wrote letters to each guest and placed them on their napkins at the dinner table - and they also asked that we feature some of their special guests in the styling.
Along the corridor to their venue, there was a series of glass display cabinets. We used each of these to feature one of the special groups of guests: Grandparents, Parents, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen and the couple themselves.

It such a lovely thought. And Kalarie told us later that as she approached the reception room her eyes filled with tears at the sight of them.Good tears!

The other way that the couple decided to include their guests was via a photobooth to capture the fun of the night! This is a great way make sure you get some snaps of guests on the night. 

And finally.. the most important detail in any wedding: the happy smiling,  in-love couple:

S&B: - When good things happen to good people

Do you believe in Karma? Even if you don't, I'm sure you recognise that sometimes good things happen to good people. That was the case for Stella and Ben - one of our recently wed couples.

We showed you a sneak peak back here but thought it was time you heard more about their day.

Stella and Ben are good people. They work work for charity organisations, are passionate about the environment and when planning their wedding they were very conscious of making it sustainable - and not spending an obscene amount of money. In fact, for a little while  I think they questioned whether to have a 'wedding'as such at all.

Stella and Ben decided they'd throw a casual wedding in the park down the road from their house. But when we met them, I think we showed them that they could actually throw a kick-ass event for their family and friends, without turning it into the big white wedding they weren't interested in. We showed them how a few fun touches can create an event to remember - without deviating from who you are or what you believe in. And without blowing the budget.
They loved the ideas, we agreed to meet their budget - and it all fell into place.

 

 

Stella and Ben decided that they wanted to arrive at the wedding on bikes. They only live down the road after all, so cars weren't needed. Enter: Adelaide Easyriders. We found this group on facebook and contacted them about the wedding. This club was so sweet and so excited - that they offered to lend their bikes to the bridal party for the day. In fact, they went one step further and offered a bicycle escort to accompany the bride! AND it gets better.... all they asked for in return was a donation to charity. The charity Stella works for! Seriously. These guys came to the party - and it all fell into place.

Next - photography. Stella & Ben were willing to cut corners here. They were happy with family members taking pics and didn't want to spend the cash on an overpriced photographer. Little did they know, a talented  photographer from interstate had heard about their wedding, was keen for some extra photos for her portfolio and happened to be in Adelaide for the week, so she offered her services. For. Free. Thank you, Figtree Pictures.
See where I'm going with this? It all fell into place.

Jump forward to a fortnight before the wedding. Stella's hairdresser cancelled the booking (!!) and Stella was left wondering how she'd obtain her 1940s up-do. Well... a little phoning around and we managed to get Gemma Vendetta (vintage beauty stylist extraordinaire) to squeeze Stella into her busy schedule. Again (say it with me now), it fell into place.  

Call it luck, call it karma, call it a great bunch of suppliers (we wont object to that).
Whatever way you look at it, good things happened for Stella and Ben.
And they are good people.
May they live happily ever after.

Pod & Pea provided hire and set-up of all items at the event:

• 50m of white bunting framed the space where the couple made their vows. 
• 20 picnic blankets were laid out, along with cushions for added comfort and little crate tables and picnic baskets. 
• Cozy little lounge areas were set up for those that weren't able to sit on the floor. 
• Lawn games provided entertainment for the guests - including croquet, bocce and hand-painted Twister on the lawn. 
• 'Bev' our beverage stand made an appearance, along with galvanised tubs to chill their drinks.  
• We provided all tables and linen for the shared plates that their guests bought in lieu of gifts.
• A 'photobooth' area provided somewhere for guests to create memories of the day
• We even provided all flowers for the event.
• Most important to the couple - all cups, plates and cutlery provided were fully compostable and now live in their garden!
