Baby Shower: Kate is ready to pop

Today I went to a very special baby shower. Special because it was for my big sister, in honour of my baby nephew who is yet to grace us with his presence but already holds a special place in our hearts!

The baby shower had a blue colour scheme, since blue is for boys. We also had a bit of a 'pop' theme - since 'Kate is ready to pop'.
The invitations were sourced from etsy seller, Lindsey, and were printables.
In line with the pop theme, we had big round balloons that looked just about ready to pop, along with popcorn, soda pop, mallow pops, lollipops, and so on..

Last week on facebook, we asked for recommendations for cupcakes for one of our brides. Incidentally, that bride booked her wedding cakes from one of the recommended suppliers: Bec's Bakes. I decided to get in touch with Bec myself, and at rather late notice, she made some cakes for today's baby shower.

The lemon curd sponge cupcakes were absolutely divine! We had blue ones with tiny little baby feet on top, as well as some plain white which I decorated with cake toppers.

Kate wasn't keen to play the traditional baby shower games, so instead I made her a book and asked everyone to provide some advice for her to look back on.. things they wished they knew before they'd had babies, tips on how to get them to sleep/eat/etc - or just little things that will help her keep her sanity. Everyone wrote her a note and slotted it into one of the envelopes in the book.

Reading the responses was great fun, with tips ranging from "Listen to your mum and aunties", through to "Don't listen to anyone, trust your gut!". Baby Panadol made an appearance as a life-saver, and we also had the rather hilarious: "Don't post annoying stuff on Facebook. Cute photos and funny stories accepted, but keep the annoying stuff to yourself or vent elsewhere!" :-)

I'm looking forward to being an aunty. If today is anything to go by, he's going to be one spoiled little boy!

Now I'm off to enjoy one last Bec's Bakes cupcake for dinner..

BIRDCAGES

We thought we would share another little inspiration piece...

Birdcages at weddings can seem so-yesterday, yet they are still a staple favourite. Despite the familiarity of the bird cage there are so many ways to use them; incorporating some to-die-for detail, and yet still producing an original and interesting look.

Here are a collection of pics we have been loving of the past few months.

How cute is this place setting!! Although we would assume one would need to be keen to have a bird theme running through out the whole day.

The Great Gatsby Era

The new, the exciting, and the scandalous! Oh – how I sometimes wish I were born in an era where it felt like we were on the verge of a revolution. A revolution of style and life style!! (That said; we might just be living on the verge now…?)

The Roaring 20’s holds host to many triumphs: Women’s rights and our movement into the work force, music and scientific discovery. It was a time of rebuilding, rediscovering and reinventing! Most importantly, it was a significant shift in style and fashion in general! Beautiful head pieces, comfortable floating dresses, black, gold and champagne palettes. Oh -so glam.

We we’re liberated!

Its no wonder we are once again feeling inspired by this point in time, how could we not?

Kate Moss used 1920's inspiration for her (gasp-worthy) big day.... and who doesn't need another excuse to look at these pics...

And Tori Spelling also went with a classic 1920s look on her wedding day. Rarely listed as a style icon, this pic of Tori is somewhat different and proves that the vintage look is totally pretty, elegant and timeless.

We imagine a 1920s wedding involving lots of crystal vases and brass pieces. Soft muted tones like cream, gold and blush. Red lips and classic roses. Perhaps a jazz band playing in the corner. It's all about glamour, old hollywood style.

If you're planning a vintage wedding in Adelaide, there are plenty of great suppliers that you should check out..

  • In Love Again Vintage Bridal at Largs Bay has a range of original vintage dresses to try on, as well as custom-made head-pieces. Rene is also offering styling if you need some help achieving the overall look.
  •  Gemma Vendetta does hair and makeup in the vintage style, and even uses actual methods that were used at that time.

Shiny (untarnished) Precious Gold

If you've been following our work, you'll probably have seen some of our rustic styling. Many of brides that we meet lean towards this look, and request rustic touches like hessian, wood, vintage jars and bottles, handmade signage, etc.  We love things that look a little worn, are a little tarnished, and have a lot of character - and it seems many brides do too.

As much as we love our rustic collection, there are many other styles that we adore equally, so we thought that over our next few blog posts we'd share some of these. We want to provide some inspiration, some of our ideas of the upcoming trends in colour and style.

Today, we're starting with Gold. Not tarnished rustic vintage gold that you might have seen us play around with. Nope, here's some bright shiny sparkle to brighten your day!

Sparkly dresses -
These work for both the bride AND the bridesmaids. Best for an evening event, some sequins or sparkles will add a touch of glam to your event. And you're sure to glow throughout the night!

Gold Cakes -
One of our favourite trends is gold cakes. Even if you aren't using much 'metal' in your day, a shining cake is enough to add a real pop of bling!

Invitations -
Printing in metallic is not easy, so don't try this at home kids! That said, when done well, it looks swell!

Centrepieces
Add some sine to your tables by displaying flowers in metallic vessels. Vintage vases, or even spray painted tin cans. You could also consider a sparkly table runner.

Other decoration -
Here are some other ways to add some sparkle.. in the form of backdrops and other decorative bits and pieces.

Using Furniture

There is just something about antique furniture. Antique, vintage, second hand.

Don’t you sometimes wish your Grandmother hadn’t downsized and thrown out her beautiful pieces? That your Mum had said, “hey I’ll keep that?” Or that you were around to claim them?!These are pieces that have sat there throughout time. If only they could talk; imagine the stories they could tell?

Sentimental, characteristic or simply unique pieces, some furniture just feels right, like a piece of home or part of the family!

As a lover of incorporating things that are “so me” (or "so you") in events, I adore the idea of using unique and one of a kind pieces of furniture in weddings. It may be the dresser your Granny sat in front of when she moved into her first home. It may be a piece your Mother bought when she was 18; or something you found, fell in love with, and restored.

Furniture has the ability to hold value, precious memories, and sentimental meaning. It also has the ability to provide a laid back garden wedding with the ‘grand factor’. And add that homely personal touch.

If you’re still in doubt…..

Classic pieces or painted to match your colour scheme.... both are equally as impressionable!!!!
If you want to incorporate some furniture into your event, (beyond the standard trestles and chairs) then don't hesitate to ask us. We have plenty to hire and would love to create your own special space, using lounges, antique chairs, dressing tables and antique buffets.

The Beauty of the Edible

*Newsflash* the herbs and the vegetables replace flowers! What?  Yes that’s right, herbs and veggies are making their ways off the plate and into the centre pieces (as well as the brides hands). They are adding color and texture in a whole new way and we think they are a pretty neat alternative to their botanical cousins!!

For something a little more discreet; artichoke, Kale and herbs can be easily integrated into a more traditional piece.  If discreet is not you, then make use of the bold and beautiful radishes and purple cauliflower.

A vegetable can’t quite create the dreaminess of a beautiful flower, but; they can be bright, modern and artistic and certainly create a talking point! Here are some of the creative pieces we have enjoyed!
